Gluten-Free-Friendly Chicago Restaurants

Welcome to Gluten Free Nosh’s Chicago restaurant list!

There are so many great restaurants in Chicago, with an increasing number of gluten-free options. This list focuses on restaurants in the city, as opposed to the suburbs, as I’m most familiar with them. I’ve included restaurants that have gluten-free menus and restaurants that easily handle gluten-free requests. Before you eat at a restaurant, please discuss your dietary needs with a manager to make sure the kitchen can safely accommodate your special diet.

This is a work in progress. If you have suggestions of gluten-free-friendly restaurants to add, please leave a comment below or email me at editor(at)glutenfreenosh.com

This page is no longer being actively updated. The last update was July 2016.

Thank you! My oldest daughter, now 9, was diagnosed with CD in December. We really don’t eat out in San Diego because I don’t have a lot of confidence that we can feed her safely. She does not have GI symptoms (double edged sword in my opinion), so there is no way for us to truly know if she has been “glutenized”.
We are traveling to Chicago for my sister’s wedding in May. My anxiety grows by the day as we get closer to our trip because the trip is too long to fall back on fresh fruit & veggies & GF bars! Your list of restaurants will at least narrow things down for us a bit.
I still have difficulty discerning the restaurant menu’s that have “fad GF” with the ones that really take it seriously. Curious if your daughter has eaten at the majority of the restaurants you have listed?

    • We have eaten at many of the restaurants listed, but not all of them. I generally trust the restaurants that have a dedicated GF menu more than I trust a restaurant that says “we can adjust things to be gluten-free.” I think the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants, http://www.leye.com, are generally pretty good about gluten-free. If you email me directly, eve (at) glutenfreenosh.com, I can give you more specific recommendations, based on where you will be.

Thank you for your most informative website.
My 6 year old son was diagnosed with celiac when he turned 3 and eating out is very challenging.
I wanted to let you know that there is a terrific restaurant in Lakeview called Milt’s Barbeque for the Perplexed : 3411 N Broadway St, Chicago, IL 60657
    (773) 661-6384.
They have a number of delicious options on their menu explicitly listed as gluten free. My son is very happy to be able to order chicken nuggets and french fries.
They are certified Kosher as well.

  6. I was very happy to find a gluten-free blog that includes information on restaurants in the Chicago area. I live in the Northwest suburbs, and there are many restaurants out here that provide good gluten-free options. There are also restaurants that have dishes that are gluten free in restaurants that don’t necessarily feature gluten free options. I would be happy to provide information if you would like to add it to your blog.

    • Hi Carol,
I would love to add your suggestions to the list. I have pretty much focused on city restaurants, because that’s what I know best. But I know that a lot of readers would welcome an expanded listing of suburban spots as well as city spots — I have many slips of paper on my desk with restaurants to add, but of course I haven’t quite gotten around to them. I am always happy to include reader suggestions for restaurants — so please do let me know!
      Best,
      Eve
